Import/Clearing Office Manager

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Relevant certification is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in import and clearing, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within the automotive industry.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of import regulations, customs procedures, and international trade practices.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in import software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of the Nigerian automotive market and import practices is an advantage.

Role Description: The Import/Clearing Office Manager will oversee and manage all import and clearing activities within our automobile company. This role is crucial for ensuring that all necessary materials, spare parts, and vehicles are imported efficiently, cost-effectively, and in compliance with regulations to support production and operations. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational abilities, excellent negotiation skills, and extensive experience in import and clearing processes within the automotive industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Import Management:

    • Develop and implement import strategies to ensure a reliable supply of materials and vehicles.
    • Establish long-term relationships with key international suppliers to secure advantageous terms.
    • Continuously evaluate and improve import processes to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Customs Clearing:

    • Oversee and manage the customs clearing process, ensuring timely and compliant clearance of all imported goods.
    • Coordinate with customs brokers and relevant authorities to expedite the clearance process.
    • Resolve any issues related to customs documentation, duties, and taxes.
  • Supplier Management:

    • Identify, evaluate, and select international suppliers based on quality, cost, and delivery performance.
    • Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers to secure the best terms.
    • Monitor supplier performance and address any issues promptly to ensure compliance with contractual terms.
  • Documentation and Compliance:

    • Ensure accurate and timely preparation and submission of all import documentation.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of customs regulations and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and standards.
    • Conduct regular audits and reconciliations to prevent discrepancies and ensure accuracy.
  • Budget and Cost Management:

    • Develop and manage the import and clearing budget to ensure cost-effective operations.
    • Track and report on import and clearing expenditures, identifying opportunities for cost savings.
    • Implement cost reduction initiatives without compromising quality or delivery timelines.
  • Team Leadership:

    • Lead and mentor the import and clearing team, providing guidance and support to achieve departmental goals.
    • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the team.
    • Conduct performance reviews and identify development opportunities for team members.
  • Risk Management:

    • Identify and mitigate risks related to import and clearing processes, including customs delays and regulatory changes.
    • Implement measures to safeguard materials against theft, damage, or loss during transit.
